The term discharged from a bankruptcy means that your obligation or responsibility has been cancelled.

How do I get a discharge from bankruptcy?

You will be automatically discharged from bankruptcy nine months after filing as long as this is your first bankruptcy, your discharge is not opposed, you have not refused or neglected counselling and you are not required to pay a portion of your surplus income into the bankruptcy estate as per the standard established by the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy.

Once you are discharged from bankruptcy, you will be released from the legal obligation to repay the debts you had at the date of bankruptcy, except for certain types of debts that are excluded such as alimony and child support payments.
